Castle Wedding Films: Rowton Castle and the Treehouse at Alnwick

Two castle weddings, four hundred miles apart. Charlotte & Ross at Rowton Castle in Shrewsbury, and Joel & Niki at the Treehouse beside Alnwick Castle in Northumberland.

Castle weddings ask something different of a film. The scale is part of the story, and the camera has to honour it without losing the two people the day is actually about.

Two of mine are below: Charlotte & Ross at Rowton Castle near Shrewsbury, and Joel & Niki at the Treehouse at Alnwick Castle in Northumberland.

Scale without losing the couple

The temptation at a castle is to film the building all day. The trick is to use it as punctuation instead: wide establishing frames, drone passes where permitted, and then straight back to faces, hands and vows. Stone walls are the setting. They are never the subject.

Both couples booked full films, trailer and feature, so the grandeur got its moment and the quiet moments got theirs.

I travel for these

Shrewsbury sits on the Welsh border. Alnwick is nearly at Scotland. I am based in London and these were both well worth the miles, which tells you what you need to know about how I treat distance: it is logistics to plan, not a reason to say no.

If your castle, manor or otherwise ridiculous venue is somewhere far flung, send the details anyway. Travel is planned into the booking properly so there are no surprises.

Planning a castle wedding?

Watch both films above, then send your date and venue through the contact page. Big venues book long in advance, and so do the dates around them.
